Life Lately + Things I'm Loving

My WFH desk setup.

If I'm being honest, it took me a while to write this blog post. It's usually very easy for me to come up with words to match how I'm feeling or what I want to share but this season is very different.

While I think it's important to acknowledge that the world is going through a difficult time, I know it is equally as important for me to do my best to maintain some sense of routine. Maybe it's for my own sanity or maybe it can entertain one other person for a few minutes. There is a part of me that thinks being silent is good because well, it's easier and if you don't do or say anything then it’s harder to offend anyone. Right now something in me is telling me to keep going with the unnecessary but fun tasks that bring a sense of joy to my everyday (aka this blog).

If this blog serves as a journal for this time or makes one person smile I'll say it's worth it!

Like many of you (especially those without children) I am scrambling for ways to fill my free time. This has mostly involved diving into hobbies or interests I haven't prioritized over the years.

Here are a few things I've gotten myself into over the last two weeks:

Painting - Was anyone else really into painting and drawing as a child? This was the first hobby I reverted back to when quarantine took over.

Puzzling - I accidentally bought Shelby the tiniest puzzle ever which we proceeded to put together while one of us held a flashlight up so we could see the pieces and another used tweezers to put it all together.

Planting - Being a plant lady isn’t a new hobby for me but i’ve been giving my plants a little extra love this season and it’s paying off big time! New pots, decorative rocks, daily misting, they’re living the good life!

A pandemic really brings out the survivalist in people. Preppers are THRIVING. While I consider myself a prepared person, I was not ready for this! I do however have a few items that have come in handy recently so I'll share those.

Foldable Wagon - I just so happened to pick up this wagon for work a week before I was quarantined. While I haven’t yet had the change to use it to pull furniture around town, it has seriously come in handy for grocery runs!

Charging Station - This purchase was influenced by The Buy Guide and now lives in my office at home. It’s perfect for someone who has multiple (way too many) devices. I got one for my parents too so maybe they don’t have to go fishing for cords to charge their phones and iPads at night.

Calendar - The main reason I wanted to mention this was because it’s kind of hilarious at this point… I picked up a large calendar for Shelby and I to use as a family calendar. You know, a nice visual on our refrigerator of things going on each week, etc. Then covid happened and our calendar is sadly.. pretty bare. It is however still very cute and on MAJOR sale if you’re looking for something similar.

A few random notes…

  • I keep seeing people use this bench in their homes… what do we think? I’m not sure how I feel about it.

  • My favorite bakery in Santa Barbara started selling more of their goods online so naturally I picked up one of these for some quarantine baking.

  • I finally caved and started watching Younger… and by watching I mean Shelby and I binge watched all six seasons. One night I asked Shelby if it was sad that I enjoyed the show so much because the main characters went into work each day and it made me feel like I got to go too.. she assured me it was not pathetic. Maybe she was just being nice?

I know this was a long one so cheers to you if you made it this far!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
