Wellness In Work

It wasn’t too long ago that I was talking about the fun parts of wellness here on the blog. I’m a big fan of baths and taking a drive to clear my head (more on this on the podcast Thursday) but there’s something to say about wellness in work.

This might sound like an oxymoron but I believe we can create wellness around our work practices. Long hours staring at a screen, messy work areas and blurred boundaries make for less productivity and clarity in work.

My favorite way to incorporate wellness is to bookend my day with actives I find relaxing and joyful. These rituals fill me up and allow me to get in a good headspace.

Morning Ritual: Coffee - Making, picking up and enjoying coffee gets my day started!

Mid-day Ritual: Catch Up - This is when I often scroll through social media, watch YouTube videos, and reply to texts.

End-of-day Ritual: Calm - For me this involves either a bath, quiet time or leaving my phone in the office. This changes from time to time and I always try to tune in and see what my mind needs during that time.

Establishing these rituals took a while and I like to leave room for flexibility. Our preferences, schedules and lives are constantly changing. Allow yourself room to flow.

How can you bring a little wellness into your work?

Here’s a few ideas:

  • Create physical boundaries around work. Only certain areas of your home can be used for work, otherwise ditch the phone!

  • Get up and stretch/move between activities. Go grab some water, shake it out, whatever feels good.

  • Distract your brain in the evenings. Find something fun to focus on that takes you away from thinking about your to do list. This can be reading, doing a puzzle, anything that requires some focus.

Reminder: you get to make the most of wellness around your work. Find rituals that fill you up and find space for boundaries with work. The purpose is to add good feels into your life!

Tune in to Thursday’s podcast episode if you want more wellness!

Have a great week,
