My Living Room & Interior Style

Happy Sunday everyone! The weather in Dallas has been gorgeous the last few days and I've been soaking it all in before the crazy heat hits. One minute we're outside sitting on the patio, the next a torrential downpour, a tornado, or a heat wave. Never a dull moment down here in the south!

This week I wanted to share a tour of my living room, give a breakdown of my interior style and review how I planned my space. People always ask about my personal style when it comes to interiors and it's hard to say because I love it all! If I had to break it down, I would say Mid-Century Modern, (hello structure), meets Scandinavian, (yes pastels, texture, and pattern), with a touch of southern style, (large and comfortable furniture with brass and chinoiserie accents).

Could I be any more complicated? Also, WARNING: PERSONAL INTERIOR STYLE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR EXPLANATION.

What I'm saying is these are the styles that influence me today but tomorrow I could wake up and change my mind. That is why it's important to start with a neutral base. Your larger furniture pieces & more expensive items should remain staples aka items you will not get sick and tired of year after year. If this is a turquoise sofa for you, then by all means do it!

Accent pieces are where you can feel free to be a bit adventurous and try out different styles. They are also places to save $ if you're not ready to commit to any particular style: i.e. pillows, lamps, rugs, art, and miscellanous decor items. In college, I had a much more eclectic home because A) budget and B) it just kind of works with that college lifestyle. It took two years of me living alone to decide what I liked and wanted for my future (aka graduated) self.

When planning my space I knew I needed to focus on function first. This is huge when you're in a smaller space and need to fit more uses into one room. My living room serves as my netflix cave, entertaining space, office, dining room, etc. This requires more flexible furniture choices that do not compromise on style.

The pretty stuff? Well, that always comes last. When you cannot plan the space from top to bottom then you have to get creative with decor to mask those rental quirks. Cover those floor scratches with a plush rug, turn an awkward corner into a home for a plant, or add some pretty artwork to cover those generic beige walls. Getting creative and adding a personal touch makes any space a cozy spot to enjoy whether it's over frozen pizza or champagne with friends.

Here's a look into my space and all of the elements that make me happy. Think greenery, texture, mid-century legs, pink, and natural light, always.

What are the key elements of your living space? I'd love to know!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
